The Program Assistant Position
Former interns and fellows are invited to apply for a summer position assisting SAF staff with planning and logistics for the Into the Fields Internship & Sowing Seeds for Change Fellowship Programs including mentoring the 30 college students working with farmworker agencies throughout the Southeast. SAF will pay for your housing and you’ll be paid like an intern, but you’ll work alongside the staff in our Durham, NC office, conducting site visits, assisting with the theater and documentary projects, creating a memory book for the participants, attending coalition meetings and more.

Responsibilities
- Help coordinate and implement weeklong orientation and 2 weekend trainings
- Educate participants about farmworker issues or present other workshops during retreats
- Conduct 10 site visits, mentor, and communicate with participants on an ongoing basis
- Support interns’ theater group by compiling farmworker evaluations and notes from each performance and creating a theater report
- Keep track of interns’ work including workplans, weekly surveys and guided journals
- Complete basic office duties such as data entry, copying, filing and answering telephones
- Conduct a community presentation on farmworkers
- Create a memory book and program certificates at end of summer
- Help plan the End of Summer Celebration
- Attend staff and board meetings
- Assist in general fundraising efforts as needed
- Maintain a professional relationship with program participants

Qualifications
In order to qualify for the Program Assistant position, applicants must:
- Have participated in SAF’s Into the Fields Internship Program or Sowing Seeds for Change Fellowship (any year)
- Speak conversational Spanish (intermediate level or above)
- Have a valid driver’s license
- Have mentoring/leadership experience
- Be able to multi-task and respond to crises in a timely manner
- Be able to participate in the entire program (May 28 to August 17, 2012 preferred)
- Fundraise $650 to contribute towards the costs of the program
